In my opinion, the quantity and quality of water is the most important to the profession. First of all, the problem of water is always a hot issue people discuss. As we all know, the origin of life is from water. Without water, there will be no such wonderful world like today. Furthermore, people cannot live without water. For example, human beings have to drink water every day. Besides, we will use water to bathe and wash fruit, vegetables and something else Also, a research shows that without food, a person can live for about two weeks, however, without water a person can live only a week. From it, we can see the importance of water. Maybe that is the reason why people are so concerned about water. Next, the quality of water is also very important. The water we drink should be clean water, otherwise, it may harm to our health. I think the quality of water may be one of the reasons why in some African countries the diseases are so easy to spread out. Moreover, the quality of water can also affect the environment. For example, if some polluted water which contains too much elements of phosphorus is discharge to the ocean, the result will be serious—algae will increase crazily, then the fish in that area will die group by group. Thus, the quality of water is still very important to the profession.
Finally, the quantity of water cannot be ignored as well. The quantity of water that human beings need is incredible. During the early 20th century, the total amount of the world water consumption is about 500 billion cubic meters per year! What is more, the rate of water consumption is increasing as the industry and agriculture develops. It is not just alarmist talk, if human being still cannot find more water or substitutes, human being will face a severe problem. In summary, that is why the quantity and quality of water is the most important to the profession.

I agree with you that the quantity and quality of water is probably the most important to the profession. Just simply that people cannot live without water. For example, it is understood and it can be seen that Malaysia is holding a strong bargain chip (supply of water) whenever they negotiate with Singapore in certain issues. Just because the qunatity of water in Singapore is limited and therefore it creates a lot of controveries and debates whether Singapore should heavily invest in desalination due to the financial concern. I reckon that Singapore should allocate proper funds for substantial research in this area to protect themselves. "New water" technology is really a big breakthrough for Singapore on the issue of water.
